Sketch Review

<aside> 🧟 1) Discuss your question. 2) Look for related sketches from the past week. 3) Answer your question using a related sketch to illustrate your points. 4) Add your key points and a link to your selected sketch below. 5) Share your screen to present and discuss your question, answer, and related sketch.

  1. Group 1 — How did the introduction of interactivity change reviewing sketches?

    1. Duration of reviewing increases
    2. Everyone has a different experience and these references change how a game is understood/perceived
    3. Interactivity requires more time of the reviewer to figure out controls and mechanics
    4. More prone to failure (if goals/controls are not specified completely)
  2. How did the introduction of interactivity change making sketches?

    1. the response of the environment you create can be unexpected based on player input
    2. p5.play makes it really easy to add interactivity, so it’s not a big change from regular p5...this is super cool
    3. have to think about how elements in scene will change over time
    4. need to predict additional constraints for some elements to prevent user error
  3. Do graphics make a game more fun?

    1. Yes, cohesive graphic style makes game more immersive.
    2. Hints to story and context
    3. Makes game memorable
  4. Choose a sketch that could be expanded into a larger game. List 5 specific ideas to explore.

    Screen Shot 2022-05-10 at 9.12.16 AM.png

    1. Making sprites for the trash
    2. Having good items that you avoid cleaning up (some sprites might not be trash)
    3. Add walls to make it harder for Roomba
    4. Different Levels/Backgrounds
    5. Other moving characters (Dog/cat/people) - if you hit them you lose points!
  5. Does sound make a game more fun?

    1. Double edged sword
    2. more sensory information more fun
    3. yes but could also be annoying if its just the same thing and disgustingly repetitive
  6. What is your favorite couch co-op sketch?

Sketch to Project

<aside> 🧟 If you have already made a project based on one of your sketches, present that instead of a proposal.

</aside>

  1. Choose a sketch you made this semester that you might consider expanding into a larger project. Think about how you might expand it into a project. What would you add? What would you change? Why should this sketch be expanded? Individual, 5 min
  2. Each group member shows their sketch to the group and the group gives feedback on expanding it. What are the sketches strengths? How might it be expanded. Group, 10 min total
  3. Organize your thoughts and group feedback. Write down 3 bullet points about what your expanding project might be. Post an image of your sketch and your 3 bullet points below. Individual, 5 min

Nicky

This whole semester I was trying to learn how to code so that I could create my final thesis project next year. Goal is to animate my painting and somehow put it on projection mapping (combining these 2 ideas)

loadpixels was a good function.

I hope this sketch could become a more accessible tool for anyone who wants to have rain effect in their photos or videos.

I am going to be working on a project this summer with a professor at Parsons to make more of these line-based generative patterns. Maybe trending towards finger prints.

In general, this was one of the few times I got to experience tangible code output, and I love these coins. It let me play with materiality and physical process after generating something with code, and I love that workflow. It’s exciting to hold my code in my hand :)

I want to create data visualizations that simulate real word experiences. Trying to create a 3D-ish plinko machine that aesthetically resembles the abstract constructivism art genre.

https://editor.p5js.org/erikabulger/full/kltMVbpN8 I’d like to refine the UI, add more assets, and make it in general seem more complete cause I would legitimately like to send it to Heritage Malta since they need all the interactive assets they can get.

-Face tracking??

  1. My first time using Blender. I want to explore more and learn Blender.
  2. Refine the sketch (lighting, background, texture)

Pico-8 seems to be an awesome tool and I’ll surely want to explore its potential during the summer. Maybe finishing my adventure game will be a good way to do it, since I can add multiple challenges through the maze instead of simply “getting the key and finding the exit”.

Being a physical computing fan, I like the connection between HW + SW. I would love to come up with more fun ideas to connect these two and make it easier for non-coders to create their sketches.

While not particularly complicated, I really enjoyed the final output of these cabbage sketches. It’s such a fascinating pattern - and this is just in the horizontal direction. Would love to create a larger, deeper series of these.

Multi-player potentials for web dev skills and would be a fun and silly game to see people try and compete

The 3D map project

I became really interested in building 3D in coding after this project. I happened to discover Three.js this term and I was amazed by how beautiful the outcome is, I would like to dig more into three.js and hopefully build a 3d map.
